I created, designed, and executed online experiences, streaming video series, and 30-day classes across creative subjects such as sketch comedy writing, songwriting, culinary, and film scoring.
As the Lead Curriculum Developer and Creative Writer-Producer for the Magic with David Blaine class, I was responsible for leading the creation of the project including the educational and entertainment content, from concept to launch.
In my role, I also wrote and designed the class experiences and projects, content, copy, treatments, show bibles and vision guidelines, curricula, and scripts. I project managed the entire process with 10+ stakeholders, and I had the privilege of diving deep into the subject matter, interviewing magicians, researching the history of magic, and testing the tricks (as pictured with a pair of handcuffs I broke).
My Role
The Experience
In this 30-day transformational online experience, students learn the fundamental principles of magic taught by David Blaine. Students are placed into intimate peer groups with 20 other magicians. During their journey together, students review each other’s work, provide feedback, and support one another. With these cohorts, students follow along with a structured curriculum and 19 pre-recorded video lessons (6+ hours of content). As students watch the videos, they complete 10 interactive, guided projects to practice and immerse themselves in the art of magic. Throughout the experience, students learn classic methods, sleight of hand, performance, audience psychology, and the secrets behind David’s favorite and most signature tricks used in his routines, stage shows, and television specials. By the end of class, students have mastered 30 tricks in 30 days and how to think like a magician.
Card Magic
Learn David’s favorite card tricks — tricks from his everyday life, television specials, and stage shows. You’ll learn how to predict a spectator’s card, find someone’s chosen card in a deck, transform one card into another, and more.
Magician’s Mindset
Magic is a mind game. David Blaine shares the foundation of what makes his magic so unique: the psychology of magic. In this class, you’ll learn how to use psychological principles to make people believe what you want them to believe.
Physical Magic
David Blaine teaches some of his signature physical feats. You’ll learn how to rip a deck of cards in half, break through a pair of handcuffs, “rotate” your arm 360 degrees, and more. David will even share the technique behind his world record-breaking breath hold.
Memorabilia
In order to create a fully immersive experience even while on an online platform, the first 10,000 students received two custom, limited edition Studio x David Blaine Bicycle decks — one to practice with in class (including secret easter eggs and special features to use for in-class tricks) and one collectible signed deck.
